We checked the top Google Maps results for "Kosmetikstudio" in 8 German cities — Berlin, Hamburg, München, Köln, Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Leipzig — and analysed 861 beauty salons. For each we read the Google profile and fetched the homepage once; 527 websites were reachable. Beauty salons are the most social niche in the study: 52.8% of reachable sites link to Instagram, and only 42.1% link no social profile at all. More than half offer online booking — 52.9%, with Treatwell leading. But the website and measurement layer lags: 19.5% of salons have no website, and 74.4% of all reachable websites in the study carry no advertising pixel — beauty salons are no exception. The Meta pixel appears on 8.2% of sites — the highest share of any niche, but still under 1 in 10. 11.4% of the 861 salons (98) have all the marketing basics covered, above the 7.5% average across all 5,287 businesses in the study. Data was collected on 2026-09-23.
Key findings
52.8% of the 527 reachable beauty-salon websites link to Instagram — the highest social linking share of any niche in the study. Only 42.1% link no social profile at all. Real estate agents are the next most social at 44.6% Instagram linking. Beauty salons have built their presence where their clients already are, but that presence is not connected to measurement on the website: 74.4% of all reachable websites in the study carry no advertising pixel.
74.4% of all reachable websites in the study carry no advertising pixel of any kind — beauty salons are no exception. The Meta pixel appears on 8.2% of sites — the highest Meta pixel share of any niche in the study, ahead of the 3.7% overall average. But that still means fewer than 1 in 10 salon websites can measure or retarget traffic from Meta ads. These are lower-bound figures: pixels behind a cookie banner are invisible to an automated visit.
52.9% of the 527 reachable beauty-salon websites offer online booking. Treatwell leads among booking platforms in this niche, followed by generic booking tools and Studiobookr. This is the second-highest booking share in the study — dentists lead at 62%. The booking infrastructure is in place for more than half of salons; what is missing is the tracking that shows which channel drove the booking.
19.5% of the 861 beauty salons have no website at all — the highest no-website share after roofers (25%). For a niche that leads on Instagram linking and online booking, the gap is stark: nearly 1 in 5 salons rely entirely on social profiles and booking platforms, with no owned web presence. Real estate agents have the lowest no-website share at 8.4%.
33.7% of the beauty-salon sites that show a copyright year show 2023 or older — the highest share of any niche in the study. The overall figure is 26.6%. A stale copyright year is a weak signal on its own, but it correlates with a site that has not been touched in years — and a site that is not maintained is unlikely to have current tracking or optimised content.
11.4% of the 861 beauty salons (98) have all the marketing basics covered. That is above the 7.5% average across all 5,287 businesses and the 0.8% for tax advisors, but below the 14.9% for dentists. 81.2% have at least one gap, and 18.6% miss three or more — the lowest "three or more gaps" share alongside beauty salons in the study, meaning the gaps are wide but tend to be fewer per salon than in trades or professional services.
How beauty salons compare to the other five niches
| Signal | Beauty salons (n = 861) | All 6 niches (n = 5,287) |
|---|---|---|
| At least 1 gap | 81.2% | 87.2% |
| 3 or more gaps | 18.6% | 35.9% |
| All basics covered | 11.4% (98) | 7.5% (399) |
| No website | 19.5% | 16.8% |
| Online booking (of reachable sites) | 52.9% | — |
| Instagram linking (of reachable sites) | 52.8% | — |
| Meta pixel (of reachable sites) | 8.2% | 3.7% |
| No advertising pixel (of all reachable sites) | — | 74.4% |
Beauty salons sit in the middle of the pack on the overall gap count but stand out on two axes: they are the most social niche (52.8% Instagram linking) and they have the highest Meta pixel share (8.2%). Beauty salons' Meta pixel share (8.2%) is the highest of any niche — more than double the 3.7% overall average — but the overall no-ad-pixel rate of 74.4% means most salon websites still cannot measure or retarget traffic.
Where the gaps are
Social: solved
52.8% of reachable beauty-salon websites link to Instagram, and only 42.1% link no social profile at all. Beauty salons are the niche that has most fully embraced the platform where their clients discover them. The social layer is not the gap. The gap is the connective tissue between social and the website: a pixel on the site that tells the salon whether an Instagram follower actually became a booking.
Booking: half-solved
52.9% of reachable beauty-salon websites have an online booking tool, with Treatwell leading. That is strong for a local-services niche — but it also means close to half of salon websites with a site still do not offer online booking. The booking platforms themselves provide some measurement (Treatwell shows booking counts), but the salon has no visibility into how a visitor arrived at the site before they booked, because 74.4% of all reachable sites in the study have no ad pixel.
Tracking: the biggest gap
74.4% of all reachable websites in the study carry no advertising pixel of any kind — beauty salons are in line with that average. The Meta pixel is on 8.2% — the highest in the study, but still under 1 in 10. A salon that pays for Instagram content or runs Meta ads has no way to connect that spend to website behaviour without a pixel on the site. The real-browser calibration on 120 sites across all niches agreed on 357 of 360 checks (120 sites × 3 pixel types), so the automated detection is reliable for what it can see — but pixels that load only after cookie consent are invisible to both methods, so the real pixel share is higher than what we report.
One small-sample finding worth noting: of the beauty-salon websites with a Meta pixel, 53.5% showed no cookie-consent tool on the homepage (small sample, n = 43). We found no consent tool on the homepage — it may be present on a later page or implemented in a way the automated check did not catch — but it does suggest that some salons running Meta pixels may not have a consent layer in place, which is a compliance gap on top of a measurement gap.
Website basics: the weakest link
19.5% of beauty salons have no website — the highest no-website share after roofers (25%). Of the sites that do exist, 33.7% show a copyright year of 2023 or older — the highest stale-site share in the study. The overall figure is 26.6%. A salon that relies on Instagram and Treatwell for client acquisition may see the website as redundant, but the website is where tracking lives, and the website is where an agency can add measurement that the booking platform alone cannot provide.
What this means for agencies
Beauty salons are a hybrid pitch: not a pure setup play like roofers or tax advisors, and not a pure growth play like dentists. The social and booking layers are partially in place — 52.8% link Instagram, 52.9% offer online booking — but the measurement layer is absent on most sites — 74.4% of all reachable websites in the study carry no ad pixel, and nearly 1 in 5 salons have no website at all.
The pitch splits into two segments. For the 19.5% with no website, the conversation starts with a basic site — not a complex build, but a landing page that carries a booking link and a pixel. For the 80% with a site but no ad pixel, the conversation starts with measurement: install the Meta pixel (or Google tag), connect it to the booking flow, and show the salon which channel drives appointments. The 8.2% Meta pixel share means most salons running Meta ads are doing so blind — and at the overall level, 37.5% of the 64 active advertisers in the study had no tracking pixel on their site.
The Instagram presence is the entry point. A salon that posts daily on Instagram but has no pixel on its website is spending time on content with no way to measure its impact on bookings. That is a concrete, specific gap an agency can close — and the salon already understands the value of the channel, so the pitch does not require educating them on why social matters.
CloseFast (closefa.st) ran this audit — the same scan works on any niche and city. If you want to find the beauty salons in your target city that have Instagram presence but no tracking pixel, run the same audit on your niche and city. You can also check any website's ad tracking for free.
Methodology
Source. Google Maps search results — the top results for "Kosmetikstudio" in each of 8 German cities (Berlin, Hamburg, München, Köln, Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Leipzig), capped at 120 per city. This is the businesses Google Maps shows, not a census of every beauty salon in Germany.
Dates. Data was collected on 2026-09-23.
Sample sizes. 861 beauty salons were analysed. Of the real websites (excluding social profiles), 527 were reachable and fetched successfully. The full study covers 5,287 businesses across 6 niches; 5,694 were scraped and 407 excluded as off-niche (Google category did not match).
What "detected" means. Website signals were detected in the homepage HTML by an automated fetch. "Not detected" means not found on the homepage, not proven absent. Tracking pixels were detected the same way — a pixel that loads only after cookie consent is invisible to both the automated fetch and the calibration browser check.
Pixel detection calibration. On 120 of the reachable websites (across all niches) we re-checked pixel detection in a real browser. The automated check agreed on 357 of 360 checks (120 sites × 3 pixel types: Meta, Google, TikTok), missed 3, and produced no false positives. The browser check also ran before any cookie consent was given, so consent-gated pixels are invisible to both methods — pixel shares remain a lower bound.
Meta ads. Ads were checked per Facebook page in the Meta Ad Library (active ads in Germany). Only 18.8% of all businesses (992 of 5,287) link or list a Facebook page we could identify. 379 pages returned a clear answer. Per-niche advertiser counts are 4–22, far below the n ≥ 30 reporting threshold, so no per-niche ad-share figures are reported in this post.
Google Ads activity was not measured.
Limitations
This is a sample of the businesses Google Maps returns for "Kosmetikstudio" in each city, capped per city — visible businesses, not a census of every salon. Website signals are detected in the homepage HTML; "not detected" means not found on the homepage, not proven absent. Tracking pixels that load only after cookie consent cannot be seen by an automated visit, so pixel shares are a lower bound. Meta ads were checked only for businesses whose Facebook page could be identified; ad shares apply to that subset. Top Maps results skew towards well-rated businesses, so we do not report a ratings finding. Per-niche advertiser counts in the Meta Ad Library are below 30, so no per-niche ad-share figures are given.
